However, some pet owners may not see the same value of an ultrasound machine and could shy away from having their pet get examined with one. If you are having a hard time getting your animal owners to see the importance of using an ultrasound on their pets, try some of the tips listed below.

Train your employees

Its important for your staff to know the importance of using ultrasounds so that they can convey confidence to pet owners. If your staff is unsure about how the ultrasounds are used, then your customers will doubt whether or not it is even necessary. 

So how can you make sure your staff is well educated? Try having an on-site training course. Depending on who you get your medical supplies from, you may be able to get training included as part of your ultrasound purchase. When you have a trainer that is available to train on-site, you can make sure that everyone that needs to be trained can attend a session so that they are up to date on the machine and its many uses.

Be determined to use it daily

In order to make sure you and your staff are making the most of your machine, you need to be committed to using it at least once  a day. If you are still new to using an ultrasound in your practice, remembering to use it can become an issue. Remember though that there are probably a good number of patients throughout each day that can benefit from an ultrasound.

A great way of getting proper use out of your ultrasound is to keep a log. The more you and your staff uses the log, the more pet owners will trust your recommendation that it should be used.

Talk to the Owner in detail about the benefits

The pet owner has two big things to worry about, the health of their pet and the costs of each procedure performed. A pet owner could therefore shy away from the procedure if he or she isn't fully aware of what you are looking for when using an ultrasound. To help convince the pet owner to going through with the procedure, make sure you plainly explain the reasoning for using the ultrasound.

For example, you might explain that there is an abormal mass that was found during the exam, and it could be a sign of a serious issue. If an operation is necessary, you can explain that an ultrasound is vital for mapping out the procedure.
